Commission to monitor other city boards, proposes "Alameda for All" accessibility pilot

Commissioner Canadler presented a pilot framework she called "Alameda for All," describing small tests such as sensory-friendly library hours, playground communication boards, quiet areas and clearer visual signage. "I'm calling it Alameda for All," Canadler said, describing the framework as a low-cost, incremental way to test accommodations and gather community feedback before broader rollout.
Staff outlined outreach and event options where the commission could table or engage the public: the Alameda spring shindig (April 18, pending), a home electrification fair planned for May 2 tied to the Alameda Bike Festival, and a proposed July film screening for Disability Pride Month (the film under consideration is Camp; staff said they are exploring contacts to secure licensing and a local speaker). Commissioners discussed Brown Act notification rules for quorum presence at public events and agreed to coordinate attendance via email so staff can post required notices if needed.
Staff also said the commission will be invited to be featured in city newsletters and a local podcast and asked commissioners to clarify desired ClickFix report metrics so staff can prepare follow-up data for future agenda items. Commissioners volunteered to monitor a set of boards and return with observations at the May meeting.
