Hayden Council hears summer public-works plan; roundabout project estimated at $3.4 million

Hayden City — Public works presented the city’s expected construction season at the March 10 council meeting, highlighting two city-funded projects and a larger slate of developer-driven work.

Public works staff said the Hayden–Atlas temporary signal requires roadway widening and equipment installation and estimated costs at "a couple hundred thousand dollars" to complete the temporary installation. The Ramsey–Honeysuckle roundabout, for which right-of-way agreements are nearly secured, was estimated at about $3.4 million for construction and administration; staff said it will occupy most of the summer and will have wide traffic impacts in that area.

Staff also reviewed the chip-seal program and two candidate schedules (A and B). The presentation stated the chip-seal budget was "just under a million dollars," but the exact figure in the spoken presentation was unclear in the transcript. Council members asked about lane-mile totals (Schedule A ~17 lane miles, the alternate ~3 lane miles), expected lifespan of chip seal (five to eight years depending on traffic) and coordination to avoid overlapping adjacent projects.

Staff listed developer-driven projects labeled A–H that could be active this summer (Hayden Canyon frontage and roundabout features, Mark’s Ranch Lancaster Road frontage, Hayden Sky PUD frontage, Mayberry subdivision crossing improvements, Madison Ranch/Downing Road, and other frontage improvements). For each, staff emphasized timing remains contingent on developer schedules and permits. Staff offered to distribute the presentation to council by email.

The council did not take action on these work items at the meeting; the presentation was for information and scheduling coordination.
