Shawnee honors React EMS's 30th anniversary and Grove School girls basketball champions

The Shawnee City Commission opened its meeting by recognizing the Grove School Lady Basketball team for winning the OS Division 3 state championship and inviting players and coaches forward for applause.
During citizen participation, Ryan Doer, representing React EMS, marked the agency's 30th anniversary and recounted operational statistics: React now operates multiple full-time trucks, responds across roughly 890 square miles covering about 85,000 residents in the response area, and has cumulatively run more than 282,000 calls since 1996. "We run a 24-hour, 7-day, 365 days a year operation with five full-time trucks and a 12-hour truck," Doer said, and thanked the city for partnership and support.
Commissioners congratulated the team and thanked React for decades of service; several commissioners connected the recognition to community resilience and last year's wildfire response where emergency services were active.
Those items were presented as part of the meeting's community highlights and received applause from the chamber.
