Cassie Kline, the city’s preservation planner, told the Chattanooga City Council on March 31 that a two-year project has consolidated five separate historic-guidelines documents into a single, more navigable guide intended to speed reviews and reduce costs for property owners. "This project has been going on for approximately 2 years, and here we are in the final stretch," Kline said.
Kline said the update retains core preservation best practices while cutting unnecessary regulation: the city kept demolition guidelines and recommendations to repair historic windows in kind, but removed most painting regulations except for requirements on unpainted masonry.
