The Hollywood CRA board on May 6 authorized staff to pursue installation of a tot‑lot at Keating Park and approved directing up to $200,000 in CRA funds for the project when it returns with final details.
Raylan (executive director) introduced the item and turned the presentation over to Chris Crocido, project manager with the Hollywood CRA. Crocido described a proposed 1,200-square-foot fenced play area near the park’s pavilions, with a poured-in-place rubber safety surface, one main play structure with a slide and two smaller sensory-play elements. "That roughly all those elements, the fence, the pour in place material, some of the demo and site work along with the pieces of equipment, the benches, and some minor landscape is roughly about 146,000," Crocido said, and he added the sensory pieces would cost roughly $15,000 if included.
Board members supported locating the entrance between the two roofed pavilions to provide a comfortable approach and discussed adding shade trees or benches to improve parent seating and viewing. The board also discussed location and gate access to preserve sight lines from the beach.
Board member Hernandez moved and another member seconded a motion directing staff to return with final procurement or contract items up to $200,000 for the tot‑lot. The motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Votes at a glance: the board also approved (by voice) a consent agenda (items 5–8), a resolution authorizing CRA funds for a one‑way pilot on 19th and 20th Avenues (item 9), and authorized negotiation/selection of HDR Engineering for Stormwater Pump Station No.16 services (item 10). All three items carried unanimously by voice vote as recorded in the meeting.
