At the May 18 meeting staff reported Georgetown has been selected to participate in the state’s zoning and land‑use reform technical assistance program and will also take part in a disaster housing planning technical assistance effort.
Brian, a town planner, said the state program grew from a governor’s executive order and includes several municipalities and the county; Georgetown’s consultant is Smart Growth America. The assistance is intended to help reduce local zoning impediments to housing production and improve access to attainable housing within town.
Brian said the town will engage in monthly work sessions with consultants and staff and may ask for volunteer participants from town boards. He said staff will update the commission monthly on progress and that some work may lead to zoning or ordinance changes that will return to the commission and council for formal consideration.
