Senior Commission scales back health fair format, plans LiveWell / AgeWell PubExpo with longer presentations and vendor focus
Summary
Commissioners agreed to simplify last year’s multi-session health fair into one or two longer presentations to give attendees time to visit vendors, prioritized accessibility (seating and layout), and assigned staff and commissioners to finalize speakers, vendors and marketing for the mid-May events.

The Los Altos City Senior Commission voted to streamline its upcoming health fair and LiveWell AgeWell PubExpo after reviewing feedback from last year’s event. Staff recommended fewer, longer presentations (one to two hour-long sessions) within a midday event window so attendees have time to visit vendors; commissioners supported the approach and flagged fraud-protection and emergency preparedness as priority topics.
Staff recalled that last year’s presentations drew about 30–50 people in the main presentation room while movement demonstrations drew far smaller crowds (three to eight). Based on that attendance, commissioners favored a keynote or two that could include extended Q&A rather than multiple short sessions that competed with vendor visits.
Accessibility was a recurring concern. A commissioner noted that chairs without arms make seating difficult for attendees who use walkers or mobility aids and urged the city to reserve accessible seating and consider chair types in future budgets and layout plans. Staff said volunteers and staff at check-in could assist with seating and that the community center could accommodate accessible space in the layout.
Commissioners and staff agreed to form a small subcommittee to coordinate speakers, vendors and food logistics; the city will handle giveaways, marketing and the event layout. Staff will compile available presentation dates and circulate a vendor and speaker list; commissioners were asked to help recruit speakers and distribute flyer PDFs through neighborhood platforms and personal networks.
The commission also reviewed related community programming (Club 55 pop-ups, a mid‑summer luau and the city’s summer concert series) and confirmed that event materials and flyers will be available on the city website and at the community center. The commission adjourned after requests to agendize marketing and outreach for the next meeting.
