The Los Altos City Senior Commission on Monday heard a report on a recent joint meeting with the city council and agreed to prioritize outreach to isolated seniors as part of its work plan. The chair said the council was broadly supportive of the commission’s proposals but singled out outreach to isolated residents as a recurring concern.
The chair told commissioners she submitted three pages of recommendations and asked staff to distribute the material so the commission could formally review it at a future meeting. Staff advised the commission that, under Brown Act rules, the item should be agendized so commissioners could discuss it openly and form either working pairs or an ad hoc subcommittee to carry out outreach tasks.
Commissioners emphasized that outreach and marketing need to be timely to affect participation in upcoming events; one member suggested splitting outreach efforts geographically between Los Altos and Los Altos Hills and identifying high-traffic locations to post flyers. The chair said staff would include the recommendations in the packet for the next agenda and that the commission could refine tasks and assignments in June.
The commission also approved prior meeting minutes before moving on to event planning. The chair closed by asking commissioners to share event materials through personal networks and neighborhood platforms to increase attendance.
The commission’s next steps are to circulate the submitted recommendations to staff, agendize the item for a June meeting, and determine whether to form an ad hoc group or assign working pairs to carry out outreach.
