The Leon Valley Planning and Zoning Commission voted to approve a specific use permit for Saffron Radiance, a medical spa that will offer advanced aesthetic treatments including injectable procedures at 6521 Bandera Road.
Staff member Mr. Gallardo told the commission the property sits in a B2 retail district and abuts residential lots, which is why the business requires a specific use permit. He said the structure is existing and that interior remodeling under way does not appear to involve structural changes, though a building permit, signage permit and a certificate of occupancy will be required before the business can open.
Applicants and representatives addressed the commission at the public hearing. Jorge Zamora, who said he is helping manage the business, said the spa will be staffed by medically trained personnel: “My sister is a registered nurse,” Zamora said, and she will handle injection procedures. Co-owner Ailitzi Cantu identified herself as responsible for the business side and said she works on the paramedic side rather than performing injections.
Commissioners pressed for operational details. Mr. Gallardo and the applicants said injections and IV treatments will be provided only by state-licensed personnel and that regulated waste will be handled by a contracted medical sharps disposal company.
The public portion was opened and closed with no speakers. Commissioner Olin Yarnell moved to approve the SUP and the motion carried without opposition.
Next steps for the applicant include applying for required permits, presenting state licensure documentation for clinical staff, and obtaining a certificate of occupancy prior to beginning medical procedures.
