Council certifies acting mayor during Mayor Johnson's extended absence

The Covington City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-09 on March 31 to certify and designate the council president as acting mayor while Mayor Mark Johnson is absent April 27 through May 14, 2026.
"This is strictly protocol," Councilman Roberts said, explaining that when a mayor will be absent more than 14 days the council must assign someone to serve as acting mayor, typically the council president. Council moved, seconded and accepted the resolution by roll call without public comment.
The resolution passed by voice/roll-call vote; councilmembers recorded yes votes for Councilman Inman/Enman, Burrell, Bosford/Bodzford, Barrett, Callahan, Bushnell and Roberts. No further council action was taken on the matter that evening.
