The board heard presentations about local youth athletics and awarded grant recognition to a community organization on March 26.
Jonathan Ces, director of athletics at Hudson County Community College, introduced the college's newly hired head men's and women's basketball coaches and asked that schedules for both teams be provided to commissioners so they could attend games. One of the new coaches participated by Zoom and the board welcomed the hires.
Representatives from the Boys & Girls Club asked the board to ensure participant registration lists and schedules are shared with county offices and the county executive's office so commissioners can see how program funds are used. The board moved to amend and approve resolution 24 to change the title to recognize the Barry (Gary) Greenberg summer basketball program; the amended resolution passed on a roll call.
Commissioners praised the club's role in providing safe summer activities, noting the program's reach in Lincoln Park, Washington Park and Hoboken. The board asked staff to receive program schedules and registration numbers and to continue coordination with the Boys & Girls Club and county athletics staff.
The adopted amendment will appear in the form of the resolution awarding grant funds to the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County for the Barry Greenberg summer basketball program.
