Carroll County proclaims April Sexual Assault Awareness Month; Care Healing Center outlines services and helpline

Carroll County commissioners on March 26 adopted a proclamation declaring April Sexual Assault Awareness Month and heard from local advocacy and medical partners about survivor services and outreach efforts.
Stephanie Powers, executive director of the Care Healing Center, and Tracy Jingling of the Carroll Hospital Forensic Care Center described coordinated local services for survivors, noting the Care Healing Center has supported over 200 survivors so far this year, taken 218 helpline calls, provided 30 hospital accompaniments, held 129 crisis sessions and provided 660 counseling sessions. "By publicly recognizing April's sexual assault awareness month, we are creating a community where survivors feel safe to come forward and where they're met with belief, compassion, and support," Powers said.
The board asked how survivors can access help; the Care Healing Center provided a 24-hour helpline: 410-857-7322, and pointed to national and state directories (Rainn.org and the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault) for additional resources. Commissioners praised the coordinated response between advocacy, law enforcement and the state's attorney's office and expressed support for continuing partnerships that encourage survivors to seek help.
