Liberty County Elections Board approves contracts, polling locations and testing notices for May 2 election

Board members present — the presiding officer, Miss Chambers, Sheriff Raider, Wes Thomas and Michael Martin — established a quorum at about 8:35 a.m. before taking up routine election business. During the public‑comment period, a speaker identified as Lee thanked election staff and poll workers for their work on recent primaries and said, "They're doing a great job getting ready for this one ... and thank you to the Liberty County Commissioners Court because we are loving that new van." The board reviewed and approved contracts under which Liberty County will provide election services for multiple local political subdivisions listed in the meeting record, including the City of Ames, City of Cleveland, City of Dayton, City of Liberty; several independent school districts (listed in the transcript as Cleveland ISD, Dayton ISD, Divers ISD, Harden ISD and "whole day ISD"); Liberty ISD (a bond election); and Liberty County Water Control Improvement District numbers 1 and 5. Staff described the contracts as standard annual agreements and offered to email copies of the contract documents to board members because attachments could not be included in the packet.
The board also approved the voting locations proposed for early and election‑day voting. Staff confirmed curbside voting will be available at early‑voting locations and outlined the local schedule: early voting will start on Monday, pause on Tuesday, April 21 (no voting that day), resume Wednesday, April 28 will be the last day of early voting, and the election day is Saturday, May 2.
On election notices, staff said the county will hold logic‑and‑accuracy testing of voting equipment at 10:00 a.m. on March 16 and will publish a general notice of election for the 12 contests in The Vindicator. The board voted to approve the testing date and the publication as an expenditure tied to the election notices.
All three formal motions — the contracts, the locations and the notices/testing — were moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at about 8:41 a.m.
