The Climate and Environmental Justice Commission voted unanimously March 23 to recommend the City Council adopt the City of Davis's 2025 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP), a five-year update that documents municipal water demands, supplies and drought-response planning and will be submitted to the California Department of Water Resources by July 1.
Consultant Melanie Holton, a civil engineer with Brown and Caldwell, told the commission the UWMP is principally a regulatory planning document required under the Urban Water Management Planning Act of 1983. "The act requires that any purveyor water agency serving more than 3,000 customers or 3,000 acre-feet per year is required to submit an urban water management plan and they are due every five years," Holton said, summarizing the legal timetable and the plan's required elements.
