Board members discussed a proposed approach to budget for the district’s Air Force JROTC program at Finley.
Staff said JROTC enrollment has declined over five years and recommended using a three-year average of 22 students to estimate district cost sharing at about $2,800 per student. "For the budget I was planning on using the 3-year average of 22 students at a cost of $2,800 per student," the presenter said.
Board members asked whether any state reimbursement exists; staff said there is none and that the JROTC programs are costly. Transportation costs were discussed separately: staff estimated transportation in the current year at about $26,000 (with other calculations suggesting up to $30,000 when accounting for activity buses), and noted transportation and other ancillary costs were considered in the proposal.
The board expressed general satisfaction with the approach and staff said they would include the proposed per-student funding and the transportation estimate in the budget document.
