Board conditionally approves Lafayette 11B sewer extension, asks engineers for tie-in details

The Tippecanoe County Drainage Board on Monday approved, with conditions, an extension of the Lafayette 11B sanitary sewer that will extend existing infrastructure along Dismal Creek and tie into a manhole north toward County Road 500.
Sam Robertson of HWC told the board the work is an extension of a previously approved project and will run along Dismal Creek and the John McCoy drain. Paul Cesy of Bowen Engineering said the extension includes a perpendicular connection across County Road 250 and another run north toward County Road 500.
Zach from the surveyor’s office recommended conditional approval, noting the March 17 review memo. Board members said they want a follow-up technical meeting with the consultant team before final petition approval for the John McCoy encroachment to confirm trench depth, where excavated material will be placed and how the ditch will be reconstructed and repaired after work.
"At some point in time here in the very near future, you and I and Sam probably ought to have a quick conversation on that," a board member said, asking staff to set up a Teams meeting to detail the construction approach.
The board approved the conditional recommendation and later approved a formal encroachment for the Dismal Creek tie-in after staff affirmed the location and recommended approval. No public comment was recorded on the project at the hearing.
Next steps: county staff and the project team will meet to resolve the requested technical clarifications before the petition for the John McCoy encroachment is placed on the next meeting’s agenda for final action.
