The Star City Council on Feb. 17 approved a conditional‑use permit for Forge Fitness (CU25‑05), a 2,500‑square‑foot, faith‑based men’s fitness club in a mixed‑use development off Herren’s Flight Lane. The applicant, David Vargas, told the council he intends to keep membership small and capped and will schedule activities to reduce peak parking demand.
Vargas described Forge Fitness as a 24/7 facility with faith‑based programming and a planned Forge Fitness Foundation (501(c)(3)) to provide youth scholarships and mentoring for young men aged roughly 13–17. He said the plan will emphasize discipline, mentorship and one‑on‑one intake conversations to ensure members are a good fit. "Each rep, each challenge, each moment of perseverance is a reflection of our calling to be warriors of Christ," Vargas said during his presentation.
Council members asked about anticipated peak occupancy and parking. Vargas said he expects only a handful of members at any one time and will cap membership to prevent spillover parking into the complex. Staff found the proposed use consistent with the city’s mixed‑use land‑use designation and recommended approval subject to standard conditions for CUPs; the council supported that recommendation and voted to approve the permit unanimously.
The council welcomed the applicant and noted prior votes that had preserved the site for civic and local uses. The applicant must comply with code requirements for signage, lighting and parking documentation as part of permit issuance.
