Congressman Lansman presents grant check to Mariemont for Isabella Hopkins Park improvements

She said the club had raised $10,000 from recent plant sales and that a former resident, Jane McDonald, had donated $25,000 toward a shelter. The grant associated with the ceremonial check, she said, makes completing the project feasible.
Jerry Stevens, speaking for the Parks & Recreation advisory board, said the board will advise and partner on the project and praised the emphasis on community stewardship. "The purpose of the park board is to create a vision for the parks," Stevens said, adding the goal is to build spaces that serve the library, schools and residents.
Congressman Lansman congratulated the village and said the presentation is meant to encourage other communities to apply for similar support. Council members thanked the congressman and volunteers, saying the village depends on grants and donations to supplement local resources for capital projects.
Council members and nonprofit leaders said next steps include preparing a formal proposal for the village health and recreation committee, developing a request for proposals for design work, and coordinating conservator recommendations for aspects of the restoration. No formal council appropriation for the park renovation was adopted during the meeting; participants described the check presentation as a milestone in the planning process.
