San Luis council tables reconsideration of Cesar Chavez holiday amid mixed community views

Torres said the change could be enacted as an emergency measure if six council votes were secured for immediate effect; otherwise a regular vote would take about 30 days to become effective. Several council members noted staff and employees had already scheduled plans for the upcoming Cesar Chavez holiday and urged caution.
Because one council member stepped out of the meeting and the emergency clause requires six votes, the council voted to table the item and revisit it at the next regular meeting so all members could participate. The motion to table carried.
