Board hires district nurse and updates electrician pay classification to aid recruitment

The Northville Public Schools Board of Education approved two personnel items during its March meeting: a contract for a district nurse candidate and a classification change to the employee manual intended to improve recruitment for specialized trades.
Trustee Frasier moved (motion 90) to award a one-year, pro-rated, probationary NEA ancillary contract to Julie Issacs as the district nurse for the 2025-26 school year. Administration described Issacs' qualifications, including a pediatric nursing background, a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's in nursing education, experience at Children's Hospital in Detroit and adjunct faculty roles. The board approved the hire.
The board also approved (motion 91) an update to the TOPS employee manual to move the electrician classification to the HVAC and technology analyst pay scale, a change recommended after a long-serving electrician notified the district of an anticipated retirement and candidate interviews failed to yield a hire at the current pay level. Administration said the revised scale will not match private-sector union pay but should improve recruitment competitiveness.
Trustees discussed the broader shortage in trades and agreed administrators will present a comprehensive TOPS manual update in June for further assessment.
