Platteville council approves sidewalk contract and backs DOT curb-ramp project

The Platteville City Council on March 10 unanimously approved several routine items and two formal actions: awarding the annual sidewalk repair contract and directing the interim city manager to sign a letter of support for a Wisconsin Department of Transportation curb-ramp improvement project.
Staff presented the sidewalk repair bid (contract 6-26) as the annual program for concrete repairs. Howard said the lone bidder — identified in the meeting as Ageli/Agelly Concrete and Excavating — submitted a low bid “just over $29,000,” and staff recommended awarding the contract with a not-to-exceed cap of $40,000 so additional locations could be added while remaining under budget. The council voted to award the contract by unanimous roll call.
The council also voted to direct the interim city manager to sign a letter supporting Wisconsin DOT’s standalone curb-ramp improvement project tied to the department’s 2033 improvement project on Highways 80 and 81. According to staff, Wisconsin DOT indicated no local funding match would be required and the work would bring curb ramps on those state highways within Platteville up to current ADA standards; the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier, the council approved a routine consent agenda that included minutes, bill payments, financial reports and an appointment to the Board of Appeals (Barb Stockhousen, term ending Oct. 1, 2028). All motions recorded at the meeting carried on unanimous votes.
