RSU 15 board adopts several updated policies, including new school resource officer policy

The RSU 15/MSAD 15 School Board voted to adopt a package of updated policies at its April business meeting, approving revised language on public concerns, facility use, student health and relations with school resource officers.
Chair called for a motion to adopt updated Policy K, Public Concerns and Complaints; the motion was made, seconded and advanced with no extended debate. The board then approved Policy KF and its procedure KFR, adding language to require that anyone renting school space be provided with an estimate of total usage costs so “the cost now will include anything that the district would incur,” a facilities representative said.
The board also moved to adopt Policy KLGA, Relations with School Resource Officers, following legal guidance. Board member Fran said the change was substantive because it broadened references to include “all state and federal” law enforcement; the board approved the policy and eliminated older, now-redundant policies KLG and KLGR.
Other adopted updates included JJIF (management of concussion and other head injuries), JLCB (immunizations of students) and JLCC (reportable communicable diseases). On JLCC the board noted it removed one sample section from the MSMA model because it did not align with current administrative procedure.
Board members framed the approvals as routine updates that align district procedures with MSMA and Department of Education samples, while also flagging a few specific edits to ensure consistency across related procedures. The board did not record a roll-call vote in the public transcript for these items; each motion was moved, seconded and announced as approved during the meeting.
The policy changes will be reflected in the district policy manual and posted with the board’s online materials. Several board members urged staff to ensure cross-references (for example, vaping language in KF vs. KFR) are harmonized before final publication.
