Local parent group urges AI proclamation as district develops guidance materials

Alexander asked for protections including transparency about data collection and algorithms, explicit parental consent, safeguards against commercial exploitation or profiling of students, and a prohibition on AI systems providing social-emotional learning or mental-health services without clear safeguards. "No algorithm should replace a teacher's judgment," she said.
Board members and staff later reported the technology committee is drafting AI guidance materials and researching model policies from other districts (the committee cited Iowa Cities and other districts as sources). The district did not vote on a proclamation at this meeting; staff described ongoing work to adapt best practices and expected future policy work through committee review.
