Shelby County awards bridge contract and authorizes road maintenance plan using federal funds

Shelby County’s highway representatives reported a successful bidding process for upcoming summer bridge and road work and the board approved the recommended contracts.
Highway staff said a letting produced a low bid of $479,888 from C Hill Civil Contractors to replace a bridge in Ash Grove Township and recommended awarding the contract. Staff also described a larger three‑span bridge project in Clarksburg Township with an estimated cost of about $1,005,000 for which the county expects federal and state funds via IDOT to cover the work. Both items were discussed and approved.
In addition, staff presented an oil‑and‑chip plan to address severe cracking on Tower Hill blacktop and described a federal funding approach that would allow the county to perform roughly 11 miles of oil‑and‑chip without drawing from the local road budget. Highway representatives said the projects will be let this season and emphasized these funds do not come from the county’s local budget.
The board approved the highway motions by roll call unanimous vote.
