The Bedford County salary board on March 10 approved hiring a treatment court coordinator at $25 per hour after hearing from department leadership about a competitive recruitment process and the candidate's credentials.
Josh, who led the hiring discussion, said the county received about 80 applicants and that the candidate before the board — Jane — was the most qualified. "There is uh no one out of those 80 or so people more qualified than um Jane that I have with me here today," Josh said. He told the board Jane "holds um a bachelor's degree in social work and also a master's degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania" and described about five years of relevant treatment court experience.
Josh also said the county had amended its request for opioid reimbursement to 80% for that position, which reduces local cost for the role; he asked the board to approve a $25 hourly wage "commensurate with her education experience." The salary board approved the appointment and wage by voice vote.
The appointee will be added to payroll and county staff said benefits will be provided consistent with county policy; the board noted the county expects grant reimbursement to cover most of the position's cost.
