Longtime assembly member urges removing term limits and easing candidate eligibility for representative assembly

Sheldon Larky identified himself as a long-serving member of the representative assembly and told the court he opposes the proposed one-year forced hiatus after six years of service. He recommended eliminating the term limit and allowing people to serve either from the county where they reside or their home county to expand eligible candidates.
"There's no reason to have a term limit," Larky said, describing his institutional experience dating to the 1970s and arguing the change would help with recruitment and continuity in the assembly.
The court received the comment as part of the State Bar rule-six amendment record; no follow-up questions were asked during the hearing.
