Bedford County authorizes grant application to study Breezewood redevelopment, commits $46,442 match

Bedford County commissioners on March 10 approved a resolution authorizing the county to apply to the Pennsylvania Municipal Assistance Program for a strategic redevelopment and economic growth study of East Providence Township — the Breezewood area — and committed $46,442 in county funds as the required local match.
County planner/staff member Stephanie told the board the county is partnering with the Bedford County Development Association (BCDA) and East Providence Township on the application. "So we are partnering with BCDA and um, East Providence Township to apply for a grant to look at a study to be done in East Providence Township with the redevelopment of the Pennsylvania Turnpike," Stephanie said, describing the goal as a strategic plan to guide local businesses and jobs amid turnpike redevelopment.
Abby said the application is essentially a resubmission of a November application for the April round; county staff also submitted an application to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) that could serve as a funding match. Abby told the board that if both awards are granted, county, township and BCDA funds would not ultimately be required to cover the project costs.
Resolution No. 310 20226 authorizes the county to pursue the municipal assistance grant and records the county's $46,442 match commitment. The board adopted the resolution by voice vote.
County staff said they expect to hear on grants in April and will return to the commissioners with updates and next steps if the application is accepted.
