Father says district denied requested meeting after educator comment

Kedarius Epps, who identified himself as a father of three in the Muscogee County School District, told the board on March 16 that he had been denied a meeting with his middle-school child’s educator after an incident at the school.

“I spoke with the principal. I tried to set up meetings about the incident that took place. I was denied a meeting. I was told that I wouldn't be able to meet with the educator who was over teaching my child,” Epps said during the public-comment period, adding he did not want to name his child in the public meeting.

Epps said he sought information and accountability and that his request was partly motivated by concern for students who “don't have anyone to speak up and be an advocate for them.” He asked the board to ensure parents can access information and meetings about incidents involving their children.

In response, board members asked district regional staff to follow up with Epps after the meeting so the issue could be investigated at the school level. The board’s public discussion did not record a formal vote or a disciplinary action; instead, members directed staff to make contact and report back.

The board meeting agenda continued to the action items after the public-comment period. The district did not announce any immediate personnel actions during the public portion of the meeting.
