Council holds public hearing, advances $2 million Little Walnut Creek wetlands and greenway project

Waukee City staff presented a public hearing on March 2 for the Little Walnut Creek headquarters wetlands and greenway project, a stormwater and detention effort north of MacArthur Lane and west of NW 10th Street.
Rudy, presenting the project, said the work would excavate nearly 45,000 cubic yards of soil to create detention bays, a permanent wetland pool, earthen embankments, a concrete weir outlet structure and associated storm-sewer, erosion-control and surface-restoration work. The project is in partnership with adjacent development and will provide detention for that area.
"This project includes excavation of nearly 45,000 cubic yards of soil ... the project includes construction of four bays, a permanent wetland pool and earthen embankments," Rudy said. He told council the project is included in the city's capital improvements plan with a total budget of $2 million and an anticipated completion date of Dec. 24, 2026.
No written correspondence had been received in the clerk's office and no members of the public spoke during the hearing, which the presiding officer closed after the presentation. Staff indicated they were available to take questions and recommended proceeding consistent with the capital improvements plan.
Council did not record additional public comment on the item during the hearing segment and the public hearing was closed.
