Students press Conroe ISD board to back female flag football; residents press for clearer library challenge process

At the citizen‑participation portion of the Conroe ISD board meeting March 17, public commenters urged the trustees to take specific actions on athletics and library policy.

Palin Lackey, a freshman at Grand Oaks High School, asked the board to support efforts to make female flag football an official UIL sport and to help carry that support to the state level; she cited safety and participation benefits and said local NFL teams had offered sponsorship help. Her plea asked trustees and Superintendent Dr. Vincent to provide formal support the student can take to the state.

Other speakers focused on library governance and transparency. Mark Brooks urged the board to establish a library advisory council to help vet challenged materials and said challenge forms and justifications should be publicly available; he said some challenge documentation he obtained by public records request contained language not discussed in open session. Kristen Brown and other parents said the board packet (590 pages) was posted late, limiting the public’s ability to review materials before the meeting.

Trustees took no immediate action on these requests at this meeting; the agenda item to consider a local library advisory council was later tabled so administration can gather additional information.
