The Wyoming County Board of Education approved several operational items that affect school nutrition, procurement and audit administration.
Child Nutrition Director Miss Thomas presented two responsive bids for cafeteria and kitchen equipment and recommended purchasing lower-priced items from Hooton and Douglas while deferring or rebidding higher-priced line items. The board approved a package of recommended purchases to be paid from child-nutrition funds; directors said they will rebid remaining items if units fail or prices improve.
The board also approved an extension of the district’s summer-meals box program with Multitude Foods. Child nutrition officials said last year’s program shipped as many as 1,132 boxes every 10 days (each box containing 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches) and praised vendor responsiveness on damaged shipments. The director said other districts have requested copies of the district’s operational templates for similar programs.
Separately, the board authorized staff to solicit bids for county and school audits (RFP), beginning a re-bid process after a multi-year contract; the board asked for an evaluation committee to review responses.
Other motions approved at the meeting included routine personnel actions and an annual memorandum of agreement that allows LPN students at the career and technical center to complete clinical rotations with Hospice House of Southern West Virginia.
