The Calvert County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a five‑year subscription contract with Axon Enterprise for digital evidence management, after staff told the board the system will save staff time and reduce mailing and external storage costs.
Steven Pereira, the county’s director of technology services, told commissioners the platform will enable the State’s Attorney’s Office to distribute court‑ordered discovery electronically, including body camera footage and mobile device downloads that are impractical to copy to physical media. Pereira said the five‑year contract total is $262,947 and the first‑year payment of $48,547.15 is budgeted in CIP0170 (TS public safety); subsequent years will be budgeted to contracted services.
State’s Attorney Robert Harvey said the system is essential to meeting Maryland discovery obligations and called it “of critical importance” to his office’s ability to provide timely discovery to defense counsel. After brief discussion, Commissioner Cox moved and the board voted by voice to adopt and enact the resolution authorizing the contract and authorizing the board president to execute the agreement on behalf of the board.
Implementation: staff will execute the multi‑year subscription and budget subsequent year payments in TS’s contracted services account. The contract award included coordination with Finance and Budget, the County Attorney and the State’s Attorney’s Office.
