Board accepts Community Crossings bids for review after state adds funding

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on April 1 opened competitive bids for roads the city nominated under the Indiana Community Crossings matching-grant program, then voted to send the proposals to engineering and legal review.
Greg, a city staff member, told the board the state added about $75 million to the program after the city’s initial application, and the city was invited to resubmit the same roads. Two contractor bids were read into the record: Milestone Contractors LP submitted $1,983,671.90 (plus $36,872.50 for striping), and Reley Construction submitted $2,230,940.82 (plus $37,142.50 for striping). "Once received we will submit them to our local INDOT office with the direction that funds will be available," Greg said.
Alex, the city’s legal reviewer, recommended taking the bids under advisement so staff could complete engineering evaluations and legal checks. The board moved to accept that recommendation and approved it by voice vote.
The action does not award a contract; it authorizes staff to proceed with the next procurement steps required by the grant process. City officials said if the state appropriation is secured and the bids meet technical and legal standards, the funding could cover the selected projects in the 2026 paving program.
