Washington County awards Community Crossings paving contract to Temple & Temple; highway updates include bridge reopening and ROW purchase

Washington County commissioners voted to award the Community Crossings paving contract to Temple & Temple after reviewing a bid tabulation presented by Highway Superintendent Voyles. Bids announced at the meeting included Temple & Temple at $1,497,509.00, C & R Construction at $1,649,102.00 and Mac Construction at $1,886,343.40. Commissioner Tony Cardwell moved to accept the tabulation and award the contract; Commissioner Todd Ewen seconded the motion, which passed.
Superintendent Voyles also reported that Bridge 61 on Bata Road is open to through traffic. He said recent storms and high winds knocked down about 30 trees over the weekend. INDOT has closed out two projects and is issuing a refund of $64,837.68, which Voyles said should arrive in four to six weeks and will be returned to the county’s bridge fund.
For the US 150 and Radcliff Road intersection improvement, the county agreed to buy 0.176 acres of permanent right of way from property owner Jeffery Osborne for $1,550 and to accept a 0.031‑acre temporary easement that will revert to the owner when the project is complete. Commissioner Ewen moved to accept the offers; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Cardwell and passed.
Officials also approved an update to the road inventory for Medlock Road (IR374), changing recorded mileage from 0.3002 miles to 0.1734 miles. That change was approved by motion of Commissioner Cardwell and seconded by Commissioner Ewen.
The board’s actions consolidate the paving award and several highway items that the county says are intended to move projects forward. The commissioners adjourned the session after routine board comments.
