The board tabled a plan to advertise bids for timber cutting on Section 16 (TIN R7EE Muscle Lake) after members raised a statutory question about cypress harvests on state'owned Section 16 lands.
Mr. Ray asked the board to delay action until the district had written confirmation from the state forester or the attorney general's office about whether the statute the board discussed applies to Section 16 lands. He also recommended the forester provide adjusted timber volumes excluding cypress so the board could see realistic revenue estimates. Another speaker urged obtaining a legal opinion from the attorney general's office rather than relying solely on a forester's interpretation of the statute.
Miss Gry moved (second by Mr. Adams) to table the item to the April meeting so the board could obtain a legal opinion and updated forester figures; the motion carried by voice vote.
