Board approves Wilder Way construction bids after lower-than-expected results

The Dunlap CUSD 323 Board approved construction bids for the new Wilder Way school after administrators reported favorable bid results.
Project leads said designers and consultants delivered the construction documents on schedule, and bid openings produced 29 packages with 109 individual bids. Administrators and the design team said the bid results produced savings that allowed certain finishes and upgrades to remain in the scope while keeping the project near a $39 million estimate.
The presentation described design trade-offs used to meet budget targets (polished concrete for some corridors, upgraded flooring in main entries, added acoustic panels in the gym and music areas). Project staff also described the need for some off-site road improvements on Pacific, Atlantic and Third Street; the township and city will be asked to participate in portions of the work because some roads are not fully district-owned.
Board members asked about traffic and queuing for the initial enrollment estimate of about 600 students and said they expect the district to continue coordinating with municipal partners on road work and possible contributions. The board approved the bids by roll-call vote and thanked the design and construction teams for timely execution.
