Del Val honors students for athletics, community service and national journalism awards

The Delaware Valley Regional High School District board opened its meeting with multiple student recognitions, highlighting academic, athletic and civic achievements.
Junior Benjamin Press was named Student of the Month for March after helping a spectator who experienced a medical emergency at a wrestling match; presenters noted Press’s service with the Milford Fire Department and his work in the wood shop and community. Coaches recognized Emmy as the girls wrestling athlete of the month, praising her competitive record — including a 185‑lb regional championship, a state placing in Atlantic City and being among the first Del Val girls to reach 60 career wins — and her leadership on and off the mat.
Dan Gasperini introduced incoming freshman John (Jonathan) Bailey as the unified‑basketball athlete of the month for his scoring, hustle and sportsmanship. The board also celebrated accomplishments in student journalism: Principal Case and Mr. Brian Smith reported that Del Val’s student publications earned a Publishers Distinguished Site Award, an NSPA First Amendment press freedom award (the district was reported as the only school in New Jersey to win this award), three juniors won a national PSA contest, four students were named NSPA student‑journalism leaders in New Jersey, and Del Val was named a Pacemaker finalist.
Administrators said a framed First Amendment award will be delivered after the NSPA national conference and that recognition materials and a photo opportunity followed the presentations. Board members applauded the students and acknowledged the staff and advisors who support extracurricular programs.
