Planning department: housing units, Active Transportation Plan and public art updates
Summary
Planning staff reported the Woodmark housing phase one will be occupied in October, the Active Transportation Plan draft is open for public comment through November, the canopy and St. Vincent de Paul projects are advancing permits, and new public-art installations are proceeding.
At the Sept. 24 meeting planning staff provided a set of brief project updates.
John reported that the Woodmark project on Bodega Avenue has completed 48 units that are expected to be occupied beginning in early October; phase two (36 additional units) remains pending with no start date. He said the Barlo hotel project remains under review and that the team is monitoring interest-rate conditions that affect development timing.
Staff distributed the public draft of the Active Transportation Plan and said public comment is open through the end of November; the plan will go to the Planning Commission Oct. 22 for a milestone update and then to City Council as a draft in November with final adoption expected by February 2025.
John also said the canopy project has submitted grading and building-permit applications and that the St. Vincent de Paul project on Gravenstein Highway North expects foundation-permit submittals in the coming weeks. He noted the city is close to filling the community development director vacancy and has made an offer to a candidate under negotiation.
Separately, the public art committee reported that two sculptures — including a recent installation by Ned Con — are installed and a third commission is expected to be installed later this year near the Joe Rodota Trail entry.
No formal actions were taken on these updates; staff encouraged board members and the public to review the Active Transportation Plan draft and attend upcoming Planning Commission outreach events.
