Coconino County supervisors received a round of partner budget and program updates during the March 24 meeting.
Mountain Line described two county‑supported programs that serve residents outside city limits: a taxi subsidy for ADA/paratransit‑eligible riders (client pays 20%; county provides local match and federal 5310 funds fill the remainder) and a vanpool program that subsidizes monthly rides for employer groups. The transit agency said demand is rising, reported 15 active vanpool vehicles, and requested flat funding for FY2027 to maintain current services.
Cooperative Extension (interim director Chris Jones) outlined programs spanning Master Gardener training and plant sales, Family & Consumer Sciences work (horticultural therapy, school nutrition, volunteer wellness programs), 4‑H youth clubs and livestock auctions, and range and livestock outreach that serves ranchers and rangeland monitoring. Extension emphasized local volunteer engagement and cross‑jurisdiction partnerships.
Flagstaff Unified School District’s out‑of‑school FAX program presented Loop FAX, an after‑school/summer program on the Navajo Nation serving roughly 100–120 students per term with morning care, athletics, a Tasty Bites cooking club, Navajo language instruction, family engagement nights and planned summer camps. FAX staff said county funding supports staff wages, benefits and programming.
Supervisors broadly praised partners and requested historical cost and utilization data to guide FY2027 budget decisions.
Next steps: partners will appear during the budget cycle and staff will incorporate county funding decisions into the manager’s proposed FY2027 budget.
