TxDOT presents 2027–2030 rural TIP for Atascosa County; comments due April 10, 2026

Deputy District Engineer Clayton Rips introduced the district team and said the Rural TIP is a fiscally constrained, four-year list of projects expected to go to contract following approval. "These are projects that you can expect to go to contract in the near future," Rips told the court, explaining that funds come from federal, state and local sources and that inclusion in the Rural TIP is a prerequisite for federal funding.
Area engineer Francis (identified in the presentation) walked through projects the district has included for Atascosa County, citing seal-coat projects on State Highway 97 and FM routes, a microsurface pilot on U.S. 281, planned safety work including LED chevrons on FM 1333 and cable barriers on State Highway 16, and a bridge replacement at Le Pon Creek south of Campbell in 2028. The presenters also highlighted the Transportation Alternatives (TA) program (20 percent local match) and noted application cycles typically open about every two years.
TxDOT staff explained how residents may comment: via an interactive map on the district's public meeting web page, by email to the staff contact (Ivon Del Roza at the district email given at the meeting), or by mail; staff said comments must be received or postmarked by April 10, 2026. County officials and attendees asked about evening/virtual meeting formats for planning sessions; TxDOT staff said some outreach is now virtual and encouraged use of the interactive map to leave geolocated feedback.
