Residents tell Atascosa County commissioners Verdai Road tire dump has returned

Randy Schultz and Barbara Schultz told the Atascosa County commissioners court on March 9 that an illegal tire pile on Verda (Verdai) Road near Pleasanton has reappeared and urged county action.

"I estimate the pile is approximately 4,000 tires," Randy Schultz said during the public-comment period, calling the recurring dump an environmental blight and telling the court he wanted the issue placed on the March 23 agenda for further action. Barbara Schultz said she continues to see "thousands of burned up tires" on the property and that new groups of used tires are being dumped again. "Stop the illegal dumping of tires. Fix this mess immediately," she told the court.

The court did not take an immediate, on-the-record policy vote during public comment; the county judge invited Mr. Schultz and his family to meet in the judge's office after court for further discussion. The pair said prior promises of cleanup had not produced lasting results and emphasized the recurring nature of the problem.
