Parks & Recreation seeks fee changes, tiny-home deposit; archery park set to open

Parks & Recreation officials told the Chilton County Commission on March 30 they will ask the commission to amend the department’s operational manual to adjust several fees and policies and to add a refundable deposit for tiny-home rentals.
Commissioner Perkins said the proposed changes include a $1.50 per-day conference room rate (or $25 per hour), an OHV (off-highway vehicle) operator fee of $20 plus a $5 additional rider fee for anyone age 7 or older, and a yearly OHV riding pass priced at $175 for an individual and $300 for a family (two adults) with $75 per child. The amendment would also add a $100 refundable deposit for tiny-home rentals to cover damage repair costs.
Perkins said staff reviewed fees at competing parks and adjusted pricing to remain competitive while covering maintenance and deposit needs. She plans to make the amendment a motion at the next commission meeting rather than place it on the consent agenda.
Separately, Parks & Rec reported the new archery park — paid for by a grant through Coosa — is substantially complete and expected to open to the public on April 1 (weather permitting). The facility includes bench seating for spectators, work tables along the firing line, bow hangers, and is planned to be free to county residents.
No votes were taken at the meeting; the fee schedule amendments will be proposed as a resolution at the next regular meeting.
