Responders from multiple jurisdictions rendered aid, applied multiple tourniquets to control bleeding and stabilized a victim who later survived but will have lasting mobility impairments, staff said.
Officers Michael Schumacher Baker, Benjamin Sosa and Clayton Profett were recognized for “exemplary performance while demonstrating exceptional composure and teamwork and providing critical life‑saving efforts through the application of multiple tourniquets to stem significant bleeding,” the award citation said. The citation and award presentation were read aloud by a meeting presenter; the police chief was not at the meeting.
Trustees praised the responders’ professionalism and emphasized the risks first responders face at crash scenes. The public‑safety committee closed after the presentations and carried a motion to adjourn the committee portion of the meeting.
The board did not take further policy action on the incident at the meeting; members limited discussion to recognition and gratitude for the officers’ actions.
