Brookfield board adopts $16.48 million tax levy and passes FY2026 budget

The Village of Brookfield board adopted the 2025 property tax levy and approved the fiscal year 2026 budget at its Dec. 8 meeting.
After a statutorily required public hearing, trustees voted to adopt the levy the board had estimated earlier in the fall. President Garvey noted the notice was published Nov. 26 and referenced Resolution 2025-74, which established estimated amounts; the proposed levy was listed as $16,477,540 and was described as an overall estimated 3.5% increase for village and library property taxes.
Later in the evening the board adopted the village’s FY2026 annual budget by roll-call vote following months of department-level and board review. Trustees described the budget as the spending blueprint for the coming year and thanked staff for the effort involved.
The board also approved several routine or project-specific actions: the corporate warrant for payments presented by staff, awarding a creative-placemaking contract to KPGS Consulting (Cook County grant context noted), a tree-and-stump removal contract with Bluters Tree Service, and Change Order No. 1 to the 2025 water-main improvements contract to cover discovered additional work ($123,389.50). Each item passed on roll-call votes.
Trustees emphasized that these financial measures and contracts support ongoing infrastructure, public-works and economic-development priorities. The village manager noted a special board meeting will be scheduled to meet a Dec. 18 grant-application deadline for Maple Avenue projects.
