Paula Day, introducing the award, described the rescue: “When a young autistic child disappeared into a dense wooded area through snow and ice, one nurse did not pause. She went for several miles, she followed, refusing to lose sight of the child. I’ve got him,” Day said, quoting the moment the rescuer reached the child. The court said the award recognizes “compassion without limit” and “courage without question.”
The presiding judge introduced Miss Tina Copic, described in the meeting as a community leader with the Legacy Keeper Nurses Honor Guard, who presented the citation. Justice Bellinger and others thanked the recipient and invited family and friends forward for photos.
The recognition was billed as the first presentation of this award in the county and was framed as an example of professional courage and community service. The court’s brief remarks emphasized gratitude to local nurses and volunteers and framed the honor as an occasion to encourage service across the county.
Court members did not take formal action on the award beyond the presentation; photos and family comments followed the citation.
