Commissioners appoint Anmarie Monk to regional health-care participation board

Henderson County Commissioners unanimously approved the appointment of Anmarie Monk to the Northeast Health Care Provider Participation District Board of Directors for a two-year term beginning May 1, 2026.
Officials said the participation district was formed with Hopkins County and Lamar County to create a funding mechanism that allows partner hospitals to leverage federal matching funds. Monk, who had served on an initial appointment, described the mechanism as a way for hospitals to pool local funding that is then matched by federal programs.
"Essentially the hospitals put up so much money in this fund and then the federal government will come back and more than match that," Monk said, characterizing the district as an important source of funding for rural hospitals.
Court members noted the statutory appointment process and said the county judge traditionally offers the appointment in keeping with prior practice. The motion to appoint Monk passed unanimously; members thanked her for her willingness to serve.
