The Marysville Joint Unified Board on Dec. 9 approved a contract amendment extending the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services' contract by two years to align cabinet members' contract durations and to add membership in the Association of California School Administrators. The motion carried unanimously.
The board also approved a job description, salary schedule, and a memorandum of understanding with CSEA chapter 326 for Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) paraeducators. District leaders clarified that the paraeducator role is not intended to run classrooms independently but to support credentialed visual and performing arts teachers. Several trustees and Angela Stiegel, representing the teachers' association, urged clarifying language to ensure the position can support Career Technical Education (CTE) arts and media-technology classrooms. Staff said they will meet with newly hired paraeducators within two weeks of hiring to revisit the job description and consider adding CTE language.
Both personnel items were approved by unanimous vote.
