Oakrove Board Elects Abear as President; Keeps Meeting Schedule After Start‑Time Vote Fails

The Oakrove School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 11 elected Vice President Abear as board president and Nancy Yu as vice president during the board’s annual organizational meeting.

The board opened the reorganization item by soliciting nominations. Vice President Abear accepted a nomination to serve as president; after brief remarks from trustees about priorities including budgeting and enrollment, the board voted by roll call to elect Abear as president. "I'm deeply honored to have the confidence of my colleagues to serve as president of the Oakrove School District," Abear said, adding that the role is about "stewardship" and collaboration with Superintendent Chitus and staff.

Trustee Salazar Torres nominated Nancy Yu for vice president after another nominee declined. Yu accepted and the board elected her in a subsequent roll-call vote; she said she looked forward to serving in the role and to working on difficult decisions ahead.

Trustees then reviewed standing board assignments and the calendar of regular meetings for 2026, noting one change: the December meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026, to meet budget deadlines. A trustee proposed moving regular meeting start times from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to accommodate traffic; after discussion the motion to change start times failed on a roll‑call vote. The board approved the 2026 meeting calendar as presented.

Board members agreed to defer permanent committee reassignments to the next meeting to allow trustees more time to review subcommittee responsibilities and proposed changes. The board also directed that current committee assignments remain in place until any amendments are formally approved.

The board adjourned at 10:22 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026, at the district office.
