Fluvanna board authorizes public hearings, hears project updates and approves proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors on April 15 authorized several public hearings, received project updates and adopted a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The board voted 5‑0 to authorize staff to advertise a public hearing on the Virginia Department of Transportation Secondary Six Year Plan, to be held May 20, 2026, after a presentation from Scott Thornton, VDOT Residency Administrator.
The board also voted 5‑0 to advertise a public hearing on May 6, 2026 to consider an underground utility easement agreement with Central Virginia Electric Cooperative to place an overhead powerline underground near the Pleasant Grove Park stage; the county stated it will pay $1,307 in construction costs related to the undergrounding.
County Attorney Dan Whitten and County Administrator Eric M. Dahl updated the board on the Fork Union Water Supply Project, noting the need to survey properties within 50 feet of the road centerline along the proposed water line and that 225 certified letters were mailed to affected property owners notifying them that access will be needed for surveying and project work.
The board moved into closed session at 7:40 p.m. under Virginia Code §2.2‑3711 A.5 and A.8 to discuss prospective industry in the Fork Union and Columbia Districts and to receive legal advice regarding a matter described in the minutes as 'Valley Link.' The board reconvened at 8:58 p.m. and unanimously certified compliance with the closed session statute.
Sara Phillip, Senior CPS Worker, presented local child protective services statistics for 2025 and the board proclaimed April 2026 as Celebrating Children Month in observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The proclamation notes year‑to‑date and state figures and urges community prevention efforts; the proclamation passed and was signed by the board chair on April 15.
