Habitat for Humanity of Wood County receives final ARPA reimbursement after program supported 12 families

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County received a final reimbursement check from the Board of County Commissioners on April 28 to complete the nonprofit’s ARPA-funded project period.
"The $400,000 of ARPA funding received from the Commissioners was used for staffing and project costs with twelve families securing ownership of houses from 2022 through 2025," Mark Ohashi, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Wood County, told the commissioners. He said the award supported staff positions that included a Homeowner Services Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator and Construction Manager.
Ohashi said 509 volunteers donated 6,762 hours to Habitat builds. He told the board that corporate sponsorships declined in recent years and that ARPA funds helped bridge a gap while the organization launched a ReStore in 2025 to stabilize revenue.
Ohashi also described rising land costs, saying Habitat could once buy lots for about $7,000–$8,000 but now often sees lots priced from $15,000 to $25,000 in some parts of the county. Commissioners applauded the work and presented a final payment of $138,000 as the last reimbursement from the county’s ARPA allocation for Habitat; Ms. Stanley noted that ARPA funds must be expended by the end of 2026.
